
Gobena Ameni Foundation (GAF) And Ambo University
On August 11, 2022, a significant milestone was reached in the realm of education and research as the Gobena Ameni Foundation and Ambo University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalize their partnership.
The Founder and Chairman of the Gobena Ameni Foundation, Professor Gobena Ameni chimdi was born in Ambo district. Professor Gobena Ameni is a distinguished senior educator and researcher at both the United Arab Emirates University and Addis Ababa University. Professor Gobena Ameni brings over two decades of teaching and research experiences at the Addis Ababa University. Notably, he has contributed to the scientific community through his extensive innovative research, having conducted and published over 278 scholarly articles.
Professor Gobena Ameni stated that the Gobena Ameni Foundation was inspired by the Aklilu Lemma Foundation and aims to collaborate with Ambo University to promote education, research, and innovation in Ethiopia. In outlining the foundation’s goals, Professor Gobena said, our vision for this alliance is clear: “Our aim is to strengthen education, research and innovation by financially supporting top students of Ambo University and recognizing and awarding best young researchers to the national level. Students with the highest academic GPAs from the fields of Biomedical and Agricultural Sciences will be selected, certified and remunerated each month and we will also honor three outstanding young researchers annually across the country for their exceptional impactful research and innovation contributions.” Professor Gobena, added that this collaboration is set to enhance educational initiatives and research capabilities at Ambo University and national wide, and it aims to foster a generation of talented scholars and educators.
Dr. Bizunesh Mideksa, the Vice President of Research and Community Services at Ambo University, underlined the importance of this collaboration. She expressed confidence that partnering with the Gobena Ameni Foundation would significantly bolster teaching and research capabilities. Moreover, she highlighted the necessity of developing technologically proficient students and educators who can thrive in research environments.
In a call to action, Dr. Bizunesh urged intellectuals and scholars in the country to emulate Professor Gobana’s initiative. By establishing various foundations and institutions that serve the community, they can contribute to the collective advancement of education, research, and innovation in Ethiopia.
The partnership between the Gobena Ameni Foundation and Ambo University marks a promising step toward the enhancement of academic and research excellence.
